I knew from what everyone told me that I was going to think that my children were the cutest thing that I had ever seen. Everyone says it - how could it be anything but true. What I didn’t realize is how overwhelming that feeling could be. How just looking at my daughters - or even now their pictures - could make me feel warm and happy at their very existence. In the immortal words of Marc Anthony - “I just want to hug ‘em, and squeeze ‘em” every chance I get.
This past weekend we had a chance to get out to the Webb Ranch Pumpkin Patch and I believe that all of us had a marvelous time. It’s the first time that I’ve been to this particular pumpkin patch, just off 280 and Alpine Road, and other than be quite crowded it’s a pretty nice place. Easy to get to, clean, and pretty well organized. Additionally, they have pony rides, a haunted house, jumpers, and even 10 days before halloween they have a pretty good selection of pumpkins. What I liked most, though, was that I didn’t feel like I was standing in the Target parking lot with a jumper and some pumpkins spread across the concrete. Here, I could see the vines and didn’t have to think where these had been trucked in from.
As you can probably imagine, the pony rides were the popular attraction, and while it was somewhat long of a wait with all the children piling on, the girls had a marvelous time taking their laps. Just watching them enjoy themselves like this makes all the wait worthwhile for me, and I imagine for them, too. I wish that we could get them onto horses more often, but that’s one of the many pains of living in the heart of the Silicon Valley - no matter where you want to ride it’s pretty far away. Someday, though, and as soon as they’re a bit older I know that it will be easier.
