What a great weekend! We’ve had a lot of fun and Oakland Zoo’s “Boo at the Zoo” event was sort of icing on the proverbial cake. Basically, the Oakland Zoo hosts a mini-halloween party for anyone wanting to come in costume - and there were a lot of people that wanted to go to the zoo in costume. It was amazing fun, and although we huffed through to get to Theo’s First Birthday Party, the girls seemed to have a marvelous time. We even completed the scavenger hunt and each girl got a treat bag.
Once we got into the zoo we got to see a variety of wonderful animals - even in the mid-day heat they were out. To be honest, it almost seemed as if they were checking out the “Boo at the Zoo” visitors extra carefully, and considering the variety of costumes that’s probably not such a bad idea. The tiger and elephants were very playful, and even the giraffes were enjoying some fresh pumpkins that had been put in their pen.
Of course, everything at the Oakland Zoo involves a lot of walking - up and down the hills - and the puppy and kitty that we were walking with did the whole thing without the stroller and with very little complaining. You’ll notice in that last picture that Natalie even took some time out to do the balance beam on the curb. Pretty cool considering that we were going uphill (both ways).

P.S. As an unfortunate side, it has just been announced that ZooLights 2007 has been canceled due to the NEW LED replacement lights being damaged in shipment. This is terribly disapponting, but I’m very glad to hear that the zoo is remaining true to their Go Green mission and not falling back on the old incandescent lights. Considerng that we’re talking about over 80,000 lights, this isn’t a trivial decision. We will all have to look forward to the 2008 display.
