Coming back to work after spending a weekend with the family is always difficult. For a variety of reasons, this one more than most, but fortunately I have a countless number of photos to keep me company and remind me how much fun we had these past few days.
My children are getting bigger - more and more often when I look at them now they aren’t babies - they’re little people. People with their own personalities, actions, and behaviors, and although some of them mirror ours, they are still their own actions and seeing them brings a smile to my face. Equally fun is seeing how they react to their own reactions - laughing and carrying on, so happy with themselves that it starts all over again!
This weekend we did a lot of nothing and a little of something, but it was a great time for everyone. Mama had an appointment early Saturday morning so the girls and I took her down and dropped her off. While she was at her meeting we went to McDonald’s for a great little snack breakfast. They both had a bunch of eggs, a half of a sausage patty and some pancake. No pictures, but as always loads of fun.
After picking Mama up we went to Castro Street in Downtown Mountain View. Mama and I were quite hungry and ended up eating at a really tasty little Mediterranean restaurant. I can’t remember the name, but it was pretty much the only one down there. As usual, the girls weren’t too hungry and just ended up enjoying a cookie from the Asian bakery next door. It was a chocolate coated butter cookie and they seemed to enjoy it quite a bit.
On Sunday we took a drive up to the Lindsay Museum in Walnut Creek. For those that haven’t been it’s worth taking a look, and if you’re a member of the Oakland Zoo, which we are, it’s even free. Ideally your children would be a little older than ours, but there is fun here for all. Basically it’s a local animal museum, and they have stuffed and real animals that can be found quite locally - such as foxes, coyotes, hawks, bunnies, hamsters, guinea pigs, and more. All the animals are those that can’t be released back into the wild, and some (like the bunnies and hamsters) come out at scheduled times for the children to touch and take a closer look. Sofi and Natalie loved the hamster - Tico - and later revealed that that was their favorite part.
They also had a great park right out behind the museum and the girls really enjoyed that. I’m quite amazed that Sofi was successfully able to climb to the top of the climbing wall unassisted, and even though she wasn’t too excited about it, it reminds me that she is getting bigger, growing up, and learning new things. Exciting, frightening and sad… all at the same time.

P.S. Natalie wanted to sit beneath the big, huge, brown bear. Sofi… not so much.
