What a wonderful Saturday. I know that I should probably be writing this into a single weekend post; especially since it’s now Monday, but we did so much this weekend and had such a good time that I am forced to break it out into two posts or I will never get in the required number of pictures. Sofi and Natalie, after all, have their fans, and their fans want photos!
We started our weekend at the Oakland Zoo, because we had signed up for the Critter Craft event that they were having from 10:30 to 12:30. Critter Craft is a combination zoo tour, activity, and play event for younger children, and ours had a wonderful time. Before it even began we visited the otters, goats, and pigs. We even got to check out some open-mouthed crocodiles. Then, with the Critter Craft group we visited the bunny rabbits before collecting leaves and then stopping to check out the macaws. Fortunately, we got a good look at the show-off monkey, too!
Then it was back to the classroom to play, read stories, paint and just enjoy being children. Our instructor, Jessica, was wonderfully entertaining and both the girls seemed to have a marvelous time. The classroom session was also visited by a few animals (a turtle, a parrot, and a rodent), so they got their animal fix in at the same time, too.
After enjoying some time in the classroom the session finished and we went outside for a picnic lunch. The weather wasn’t cooperating too much (overcast and drizzly), but everyone seemed to be having a lot of fun in spite of this. I know that I was. From there we decided to take a drive up, through San Francisco, and down the coast past Half Moon Bay and out through the hills in Pescadero - back to 280 and home. What a great choice and definitely something to keep the excitement going.
Even with the ever-increasing rain we got a chance to see the cutest baby goats that you’ve ever seen. Three of them, adorable as little buttons. I’m sure if we thought that Babi would have taken care of them that we would have brought one home. We’re really looking forward to going back out there in February because they have roughly 400 of these little buggers running through the fields. There were other animals and great cheese, but soon after it began to rain - no more drizzle, this was rain.
After the goat-farm, we went down the road a ways and ran into a very strange place that included gazillions of birds. We saw ducks, hens, roosters, turkeys, exotics and more. The girls had a great time here, too, and this gave us plenty to talk about all the way home.
Less I forget - we had dinner at Bucks, which was a great time, although the food wasn’t as good as I remember. It was just a wonderful day, though, and one that makes me thankful that I have such a great family.
