Easter was an absolute riot this year. The girls are finally getting into the holiday spirit (mostly because they realize that every holiday comes with some little gift for them), and they were reallyexcited about Easter this year. Of course, because we don’t practice religion, they only think of it as the Easter bunny and candy and toys and fun, but that’s okay with me. It’s just wonderful to see them enjoying the moment and the excitement that they get from the anticipation. This year it was a whole week of excitement for putting out their baskets in preparation for the bunny to come and fill them up.
On Thursday night we spent some time getting the eggs ready and the girls really enjoyed that. They like the hard-boiled eggs anyway and getting to dip them in all the pretty collors of dye was like icing on the cake. Sure, it was a little messy (especially for Natalie), but that’s part of the fun. Surprisingly, most of the eggs made it through, although there were a few casualties in the process – those just got eaten – quite a few were left so that we could enjoy them for a few days and even have some on Sunday when the rest of the family came over.
On Saturday night the girls left their baskets out and low-and-behold, the Easter bunny came and filled them with a ton of stuff. They got beach towels (that they’ve wanted for a while), barbie dolls, jewelry and so much more. Grammy and Grampy sent them out some chocloate, peeps, and really cute stuffed balls shaped like a bunny and chick, which of course make noise when dropped, so they had a world of fun. Being that they were so excited, this all started at 6:30 in the morning! It was pretty cute to watch, so the time was fine.
After the baskets we went out to find easter eggs in the yard. The bunny had been there too, so there were 35 plastic eggs to find, two of which had already been opened by one of the neighborhood racoons. I guess he was missing the days of hard-boiled eggs put in the yard! The girls found all but 1 and that showed up later.
After all the morning stuff we started cooking for the Gugale family that would becoming over for brunch. The food was great and we had an wonderful time out in the back yard enjoying the mid-70s that blanketed the bay area. I love California in March.
Hope that all of you had a good Easter and a great weekend!
