Generally speaking, I don’t like posting items out of order, and I still have a ton of stuff leftover to share from Halloween. That will come, I promise, but I had to share today’s trip to the beach and thought I’d drop in a quick little video to show you how great it was. More pictures, more story, click more…
As most of you know, the tiem changed this weekend (and if you didn’t know, you do now.) The girls, on the other hand, kept their normal clock and were up bright and early. We decided to take advantage of that and got out of the house early to drive through the Sanata Cruz Mountains (enjoying the fall colors) before going to the beach in Capitola, just south of Santa Cruz. The weather was overcast, but warm, and we were able to spend some time on the beach with very little wind, no rain, and enough sun to keep everyone good and toasty.
Part of the fun of going out after the rainstorm is to check out the impact the storm’s had on the environment. Capitola wasn’t spared as the amount of seaweed, storm drain water, and even the roughness of the morning swell was an indication of what must have come before. There is also a waterway in Capitala which can be walked through and often jumped over in the summer, that was full and raging this morning. A sure sign of the amount of rainwater that must have been dumped on the local Santa Cruz Mountains.
Unfortunately, I didn’t get video or sound files of the popping sound that walking on the seaweed makes, but that was a new lesson and a lot of fun for Sofi and Natalie. I think that they were a little grossed out by some of the slimy icky stuff on the beach, but the noise of walking on the kept was enough to overcome some of that.
After the beach we picked up Babi and treked into San Juan Bautista to spend the afternoon. It’s nice because there’s not an overwhelming amount of stuff there, while still being enough to be exciting for the kids. One of the things that they look forward to most is the chickens, and we saw plenty of Roosters this time - making it fun for all. The roosters there are loud - almost as loud as the two girls we had in tow. After that it was home - ending a great day for everyone.
