The best part of not having written in a while is that there is so much to talk about. I want to catch up quickly, but think it might be best to talk about current events first and roll back into the older stuff. That way everyone knows what’s going on now as well as having a chance to catch up on what’s been happening.
I’ve aways been a fan of the ocean – and the water in general – so this weekend we decided to take the ferry from San Francisco across to Sausalito to talk around for a bit. It would be a great way for the girls to get out and enjoy the beautiful weather and for us to introduce them to the experience and fun of riding the ferry. Needless to say, it was an awesome day and we thoroughly enjoyed ourselves.
For those, like us, that have never been to the San Francisco Ferry Building, the experience itself could be worth the trip. The ferry building is basically a collection of higher-end merchants selling some of the best foods available. Everything from fine meats and cheeses to rolls and coffee. Everywhere you look is quality and we bought from a variety of vendors just to sample a little of everything that was available.
It’s about a thirty minute trip from San Francisco to Sausalito, and it was a mix of boredom and excitement for the girls. For what it’s worth, the ferry is a relatively large boat and with the calm and beautiful weather it was difficult to discern the ocean’s movement from that of a car or any other transportation. But, they really did seem to like the idea of what we were doing and the fact that the boat was a boat – and therefore something relatively new to them – seemed very exciting. As is the norm for this area, it was very cold on the water and so we spent a bunch of time inside.
On the trip over we did get a very close sighting of the privately owned Archimedes motor-yacht. This beautiful, 219′ super-yacht (the 75th largest boat in the world) was moored just off the Sausalito shoreline and was truly a site to behold. It’s difficult to imagine the quality of craftsmanship, the size, and the beauty of such a boat, but I was definitely able to appreciate it.
Arriving in Sausalito – we ate our purchases on the trip over – the girls were ready for dessert. Ice-cream being a winner no matter what, they got to enjoy a scoop of chocolate and a little time in the toy-store. Believe me – might not sound that exciting – the girls absolutely loved it!
All around great day – I’d say this was as successful as they get and one that I would recommend for anyone with young children and a few hours to kill.
