In a perfect world I would have a way to spend every minute of every day with my children, but it’s not a perfect world and sometimes it is necessary to just accept that there will be days that I miss and time that I can’t be as close to them as I might otherwise desire. Fortunately, during the summer months, Mama has the time and opportunity (being a teacher gives her summers off), and this year, as the girls are older and more able to get around, they’ve been making the most of the summer months and it would seem as though they’re really enjoying themselves.
Lately they’ve been trying to hang out with friends and spend more and more time outdoors, which includes trips to Rancho San Antonio Open Space Preserve in Los Altos, California. If you haven’t been, it’s definitely worth the trip, and as you can see from these photos the girls had a really good time. The 3,800-acre open space preserve with 165-acre adjoining County Park really does offer something for almost everyone. Hiking, horseback riding, mountain biking, and jogging are the main attractions here, but the picnic areas and Deer Hollow Farm bring people from all areas and interests.
On the day they went there really was a lot to be excited about, including beautiful weather, horses walking about and even a little time with the new pigs in the barn. What more could two inquisitive little girls ask for? Well, logs and trees and fun stuff to play in, of course, and there was plenty of that to be found, too. Just seeing the pictures makes me long to have been there with them and watching their exploration. Of course, as a kid at heart, I’m sure that I would have been right in there with them.
As another interesting treat, I am noticing more and more that both of the girls have started “posing” for their pictures, including pushing their hips out and tilting their heads in an exagerated manner that is almost comical. Love them all the same, of course, but it’s become much more important now to be snapping a lot of pictures just to make sure that you get one or two that show who they really are.
So there it is… a day at the Rancho San Antonio Open Space Preserve with Sofi and Natalie – enjoying their summer and appreciating all the Bay Area has to offer.
