There are few things more exciting to a child than an amusement park, and we’re fortunate enough to have a few pretty good ones in our metaphorical back yard. Paramount’s Great America and their partner organization Gilroy Gardens are both pretty close and offer a wealth of rides for young and old alike. Personally, I think that Gilroy Gardens is more suitable for children under 10, but the fact that Great America is about 15 minutes from the house makes it a lot more appealing than the hour or so it takes to get to Gilroy Gardens.
This year we decided to “join” these two organizations as members. Membership is pretty competitively priced and offers unlimited visits to either park (and free parking). Make two trips and it pretty much pays for itself while also allowing the added bonus that comes with something as simple as a last minute trip on a Saturday evening!
While the park was a bit more crowded than I had expected, it cleared out pretty quickly as the sun began to set and we had a really good time. Our last ride was in the tower that goes up above the park and provides an outstanding view of not only the park but the entire surrounding city. I think that both girls were amazed at how big and bright the city is at night. It was impressive and capped a really fun weekend. Sadly, the season is almost over for the year, but I’m sure we’ll be back!
